Minibreak Mummy loves: Suddenly Madame Glamour | minibreak mummy
I’m really pleased to find such a lovely scent for only 3.99 a bottle. And it is on special offer at the moment, so I managed to buy a bottle of the perfume and a set containing 200ml each of shower gel and body lotion for 7.
So why did I even think to try a fragrance from a discount supermarket? Well some folk say that the scent is similar to Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. ( This blogpost on the ‘Bonkers black beauty magazine About Perfume’ blog is a good place to start if you want to read more about this.)
A few months after reading various newspaper articles and blogposts about the fragrance, I saw some in my local Lidl store and thought I would give it a go, because I was mildly curious as to whether a 3.99 fragrance could possibly be nice.
In the end I was amazed how much I liked it. I have never had the funds to buy expensive perfume so I can’t compare it with Coco Mademoiselle. All I know is that I am enjoying using ‘Suddenly Madame Glamour’ as an everyday scent. And I have just snapped up some more to make the most of the current offer.

I am interrupting my current slew of travel posts for an important news flash! Since the early days

I am interrupting my current slew of travel posts for an important news flash! Since the early days of Bonkers, I have been a champion of the "way cheaper than chips" range of perfume from European (mostly grocery) discount chain Lidl. I was the first - and quite possibly club megalos the only - reviewer to detect a marked similarity club megalos between club megalos its fruity floral Suddenly D'Or and Ghost Luminous. Now a 50ml bottle of Ghost Luminous will set you back about £25 vs Suddenly club megalos D'Or's phenomenonally bargain price of £3.99. And now it has come to my attention club megalos that Lidl may have topped this discount feat with its latest fragrance release, the rather cheesily named Suddenly Madame Glamour. For according to an article club megalos in the News of The World, which broke the story yesterday (as we have come to expect the NOTW to do with any matter of vital public interest : - ) ), in blind tests involving 150 women Lidl's Suddenly Madame Glamour club megalos knocked the sequins off that iconic stalwart, Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle (with a price ticket of £61). A staggering 91% of respondents - whom we must assume were a representative sample of the population at large - preferred the cheaper club megalos scent. Of course the lavish TV ad campaign for Coco Mademoiselle is fronted by the elfin beauty Keira Knightley, so the NOTW couldn't resist a teasing reference club megalos to her brand being "sniffed at". Lidl, meanwhile, doesn't do any advertising that I have noticed, other than to stuff flyers into my local newspaper. It is therefore all the more of a coup for Suddenly Madame Glamour to have apparently trounced a scent with such a luxurious advertising spend versus one which, like most Lidl products, will be merchandised in its cardboard club megalos outer case (the so-called "ready to sell" retail concept). Which isn't very glamorous at all, come to think of it!! But there again the price makes you feel like a million dollars. Or makes you feel that you have saved over 50 quid, at least...! And wouldn't you just love to know who the perfumer is who has gone and pulled off this wizard stunt? So does it smell like Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle? club megalos I infer that Coco Mademoiselle is the scent Suddenly Madame Glamour most closely resembles, or else it wouldn't have been directly pitched against it. But maybe not - Coco Mademoiselle may simply have been chosen as an example of an extremely successful scent from a well known brand, arguably the most famous perfume house of them all. Sadly I haven't managed to get hold of Madame Glamour yet. With its cheap and cheerful club megalos store model, club megalos my local Lidl doesn't advertise its phone number, and the central customer service line is (perhaps predictably) club megalos "busy helping other callers". If I get a chance later today, I will drive down and see if I can score a bottle, but I fear it may have already sold out, as the NOTW article suggests. Has anyone reading this tried it? Got a bottle even? Will you let us know what you make of it? My curiosity about this scent is so great that it has unleashed an uncharacteristic flurry of questions! Now I don't have the note information - I had quite a job getting hold of the ones for Lidl Suddenly D'Or, though I managed club megalos it in the end - but the press release for Suddenly Madame Glamour mentions club megalos "fresh citrus and floral notes merging to an alluring, exotic oriental accord", adding that it is a "timeless, affordable and classic fragrance". Does that sound like Coco Mademoiselle to you? Hmmm...not sure...perhaps it was just picked for its iconic stalwartness after all. What is interesting about all this is that I have always thought of Coco Mademoiselle as a crowd pleaser, as a scent that it is awfully hard not to like. It is not as though in that blind test Suddenly Madame Glamour was up against Jicky or Rochas Femme - or Caron Narcisse Noir, God forbid. Or some terrifying oud number of which there are any number of candidates to choose from. So if Suddenly Madame Glamour has pipped such a universally popular fragrance, that really is quite something... UPDATE I have now caught up with this scent and conducted side by side tests with Coco Mademoiselle, to which Suddenly Madame Glamour compares very favourably on the whole. See my later post on 30th June here for the lowdown on the "big sniff off"...! UPDATE 2! On Radio 4's You and Yours programme today (28.11.13) there was a feature on cheap / supermarket perfumes that are good imitations of more expensive scents, and Suddenly Madame Glamour got a resounding thumbs up! You can catch the broadcast here . Photos of Lidl stores from en.wikipedia.org and notbornyesterday.org, photo of Keira Knightley from beyondhollywood.com

A media report has it that a fragrance smell-alike sophiatown fashion of Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel called Suddenly Madame Glamour (you just need a spritz and you are suddenly glamorous) unconventionally distributed by the Soviet-store-of-yesteryear-inspired German supermarket Lidl is experiencing sophiatown fashion a smashing success. Why? Because blind test panels have all voted for the Lidl expression of Coco Mademoiselle, available for a fraction of the price...
Smell-alikes are a frequent sophiatown fashion occurrence in the fragrance industry and the mass-market sector can be particularly welcoming to those although it also can harbor hidden gems which were clearly created to be pillar perfumes for the masses, in the best sense possible. Knowing the scale of its reach, a perfumer will be particularly attentive and serious about the endeavor. sophiatown fashion
Can a classic be improved upon by a mass-market rendition sophiatown fashion of it is the intriguing question the reported success of Suddenly Madame sophiatown fashion Glamour poses. One would need to experience the scent in actuality in order to understand the aesthetic choices that may tip the scale in favor of a smell-alike. It could be, for instance, that it is softer, more skin-like and thus will be evaluated more positively for that reason. Or it could be that it is more tenacious. sophiatown fashion
"Two independent consumer panel blind tests carried out by the prestigious Perfumer's Guild on the Lidl Suddenly Madame sophiatown fashion Glamour £3.99 for 50ml EDP (Eau de Parfum) against Chanel's £61 for 50ml EDP Coco Mademoiselle yielded amazing results. 50 women in the first test voted tremendously for the Lidl brand with 89% saying they would prefer to wear it over the Chanel's brand and a staggering 90% of the 100 women who blind tested the perfumes in the second round said they also preferred the Lidl's sophiatown fashion brand."

Well, the results doesn`t surprise me at all. Fragrance is becoming a body care product, not a personal experience anymore. It`s sold like a commoditie and few stores care to develop the compreehension of the consumer regarding quality of the materials, identity and the dynamics of a good perfume. If the average consumer isn`t able to pick the differences and see why one is better sophiatown fashion than the other, only being able to appreciate the superficial aspect of perfume, he/she will prefer the easier to understand. The curious thing about it is that i believe with time that most of those fragrances will stop to sell at one time, cause the repetitive use of the same ingredients in several fragrances under different names will make the consumer loose the habilitie to smell then due to the olfactory accommodation. And at that point maybe people will stop to use fragrance and only use deodorant, body lotion, shampoo, because there will be no difference between those products and a fragrance. But i don`t know, maybe this is necessary to happen sophiatown fashion to lead to renewal towards fragrance appreciation and construction. I just don`t know if I will be alive to see it happen...

When the results of a new survey arrive in my inbocks I down tools, instantly stop what I am doing (in this case, applying a fresh coat of Mac’s new Rare Exotic lippy from the Posh Paradise collection; very nice) and this is because I BLOODY LOVE A SURVEY.
This one, as it turns out, is pretty gobsmackingly raine and horne belfield gas. In the UK, Lidl, (or Lidls, as someone I know calls it which makes me want to explode with fussiness) asked the Perfumer’s Guild to conduct two independent blind testing consumer panels of 50 women each on its own-brand Suddenly Madame Glamour scent ( 3.49) versus Chanel’s raine and horne belfield Coco Mademoiselle ( much more expensive).
The results? 90% – or 90 burds – decided that Lidl’s Suddenly brand was the way to go, voting it their favourite. Why? The budget supermarket says it’s because of the notes used. Independent fragrance consultant John Bailey attributes the perfume’s appeal to its “fresh citrus and floral notes merging to an alluring, exotic oriental accord.” He goes on to describe it as a ” timeless, affordable, and classic fragrance .”
I have an inkling myself of the reason but will wait till I get a schniff of it – apparently we may get one to sample. But there you go now, girls: thrun out your Chanel and off you get to a Lidl on December raine and horne belfield 5th when the dubiously-named Madame Glamour perfume will be hitting wooden palettes. I can’t even say shelves, which diminishes the allure somewhat. Still, for 3.49, do you care?
After reading this i will definitely be trying it out anyhow

Aldi Aussie Barbara Daly Batiste BB Cream Books Charlie Cien Collection Dove Everything 5 Pounds Hai

Suddenly: Madame Glamour - £3.99 - Lidl Yes, I know this is old ancient news and, rest assured, I haven't been hiding under a rock for the past three years, but if you're a former perfume snob like me who's now looking for something a little more purse-friendly then ... well, you've probably heard of this already, but I'll ramble on at you just in case ...
I'm a perfume addict/hoarder. I absolutely love them and could happily spend an entire afternoon in Boots whiffing pretty bottles. My obsession with perfumes began when I was around fifteen and received a bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier femina beauty parlour off my mum's friend (she liked to spoil me). One day I'll be rich enough to wear this again - or I'll find a man rich enough to buy it for me - but until that day I'll have to make do. It was a sad day when it finally ran out and I kept the bottle for a long time afterwards, hoping it would miraculously refill itself, but it never happened so moving on ... I had plenty of signature smells throughout my teens/early twenties (can a signature smell change on a six-monthly basis?)  When I was sixteen/seventeen, it was J Lo Live Luxe - a tropical, fruity, summery smell, perfect for your average sixteen-year-old. (Just thought I'd mention femina beauty parlour that I usually hate celebrity perfumes, but J Lo's an exception.) Then it was The Fragrance femina beauty parlour by Ghost, D&G The One, Burberry London, Armani, and the last one I purchased for over £30 femina beauty parlour was Deep Night by Ghost (which I still love).
About two years ago, I was at a friend's and we'd just finished getting ourselves dolled up. I asked her what perfume she had on and she said it was a Chanel dupe by Lidl that only cost £3.99. I was in shock, I tell you. I was even more shocked to learn that it beat Chanel in a blind test. Off I went to Lidl the following day and I've not looked back since (well, that's a lie. I have bought Deep Night when I've had cash to spare and fancied a change, but I tend to deviate between the two). This perfume is a solid handbag staple. It's strong yet not too overpowering to wear every day. It's the first perfume I've tried for under a fiver that doesn't smell like cat pee or a sweet shop (if you know any more, please do share!). I'm rubbish at describing smells, but if I had to describe this one, then it'd be sweet with a hint of musk, fresh, and elegant - told you I'm rubbish! The only criticism femina beauty parlour I do have is that its longevity isn't great, but I usually spray some on my hair or clothes to make it last that bit longer. For me, it's perfect for everyday wear and I usually carry a bottle in my bag everywhere I go. I'd definitely recommend this for those of you who are on a tight budget.
